1. What is the DeLorean Time Machine?
The DeLorean Time Machine is a modified DeLorean DMC-12 sports car built by Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown that can travel through time.
2. Why was a DeLorean chosen?
The filmmakers chose the DeLorean because its futuristic gull-wing doors made it look like something from another world, especially to people in the 1950s.
3. Who invented the time machine?
In the story, Doc Brown invented it after envisioning the Flux Capacitor following a fall in his bathroom on November 5, 1955.
4. What is the Flux Capacitor?
The Flux Capacitor is the key component that makes time travel possible. Without it, the DeLorean is just a car.
5. Why does it have to reach 88 mph?
The DeLorean must reach 88 mph (142 km/h) to trigger temporal displacement and travel through time.
6. Why exactly 88 mph?
There is no deep scientific explanation in the films. The filmmakers reportedly chose 88 because it looked good on the speedometer.

It requires 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to power a time jump.
